Ian Reid: Voice of Eagle

Born in Bella Bella, Ian Reid is a Heltsuk dancer and carver. Ian learned these skills from members of his community. Over a six-month period he worked with Kwa Kwa Kawaku artist, Simon Dick, to learn to make traditional regalia and also learned the traditional stories and protocols, which govern the regalia's use. Regalia is an important way of sharing and learning traditional culture, and Ian will produce pieces which can be passed down through his family. He is a VADA award winner for the year 2001.

With over a decade in senior communications positions with the BC government and elected officials, Ian also has a strong background in strategic planning, writing and advertising. Ian is West Coast's Director of Communications and Development.
